“Get ready for pink slips. Get ready for pink slips in your district,” state Sen. Justin Alfond, a Portland Democrat told colleagues.
Alfond is one of 28 state lawmakers representing areas that will lose education dollars when the new funding scheme takes effect a little over a year from now. During debate on the bill, Alfond said the new formula will hurt Maine’s urban school districts.
“There’s only so many options that districts will be able to do in 2012-2013. One of them is cutting teachers, administrators–hard working people that help make sure that your K-12 school is successful,” he said.
